This new build for Edinburgh University’s Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at Easter Bush provides state-of-the-art facility for veterinary students on one site. The new building is located alongside the existing hospitals for small and large animals, enabling students to gain the widest range of practical experience.
The accommodation provides two 200-seater lecture theatres fitted with multi-media technology, a library, a study landscape area, a restaurant, seminar rooms, as well as teaching and research laboratories. A dramatic light filled atrium, which wraps around the lecture theatres, links the mains spaces together and provides a focus for student and staff interaction.
A number of measures were taken to integrate the building into the landscape, including a green roof, and reduce its environmental impact. The new building obtained a BREEAM Very Good rating.
