St John Ambulance is a registered charity, a leading first aid provider, first aid training organisation and one of the largest youth training movements.
Their national headquarters is at 27 St Johns Lane where they had a requirement to refurbish their building to support their recent rationalisation, organisational changes and to relinquish a lease on a nearby building.
BDG was appointed as Lead Consultant and Architect to undertake the refurbishment of the building, providing an upgraded reception area, new meeting/training suite and new open plan working areas to the 1st and 2nd floors.
BDG’s services commenced with strategic consultancy to ascertain their aspirations through interviews, workshops and a staff questionnaire, along with measuring the current use of the building through observation and occupancy analysis.
We then worked with them to marry this research and key findings with their look and feel aspirations; brand; culture; operational and organisation requirements and design their new workplace.
Six months after the completion of the project, BDG undertook a Post Occupancy Evaluation of their space, and found:
- Improved desk utilisation with averages increasing from 37% to 48%
- Use of shared facilities increased from 7% to 21%
- Meeting room occupancy rose from 40% to 58%
- Interaction has risen by 12%
